Most recently, he served as the host of the eponymous Lou Dobbs Sunday on Red Apple Media’s WABC Radio in New York. For most Americans, Lou Dobbs is a familiar commentator known for his tenure at CNN, followed by a stint at the FOX Business cable TV channel.

Now, many are pausing to mourn Dobbs, who has died at the age of 78.

No cause of death was disclosed. Dobbs’ passing was shared by former President Donald Trump via social media on a night when he secured the Republican Party’s nomination as its candidate for President in the 2024 race.

Dobbs began his career at then-fledgling CNN in 1980 as the host Moneyline, which was later renamed Lou Dobbs Tonight. He continued at CNN until 2009; in 2011 he resurfaced at Fox Business.

However, his tenure at Fox Business ended in 2021 following the cancellation of his show amid legal controversies related to the 2020 election and Dominion Voting Systems.

In September 2023, Red Apple Audio Networks entered into an exclusive agreement to handle syndication and ad sales for The Lou Dobbs Business Reports, airing twice dailA race weekdays. The program dates to 2012, making Dobbs a familiar voice to radio listeners. The vignettes were initially offered by Salem Radio Network, following Dobbs’ four-year tenure with United Stations Radio Networks (USRN). The USRN arrangement concluded as Dobbs wished to discontinue hosting a three-hour daily radio program while also building his FOX Business show’s audience.

Dobbs in recent years was also the host of The Great America Show podcast.

Fifteen years ago, talk of Dobbs running for U.S. Senate in New Jersey surfaced following his departure from CNN. That never transpired; Dobbs’ theoretical race would have been against Sen. Robert Menendez.

Meanwhile, Dobbs was also an active participant in fundraising efforts for the Broadcasters Foundation of America, appearing in October 2011 at its celebrity golf tournament alongside actor Michael J. Fox and a variety of sports media and professional athletic stars.
