He’s the General Manager of ABC affiliate KLKN-8 in Lincoln, Neb., and a lecturer in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications. As of today, this broadcast television leader will also serve in the newly created role of Chief Revenue Officer at KLKN’s parent company.
That entity is the Deb McDermott-led Standard Media Group — owned by Soohyung Kim’s Standard General.
In his new role, Dant will oversee sales and revenue growth strategies across Standard Media’s local broadcast, connected TV, and digital media portfolios.
McDermott, who serves as President/CEO of Standard Media, commented, “Kern’s leadership and ability to drive business growth make him the perfect fit for this new role. He has a strong track record of fostering relationships, strengthening teams, and delivering results. We’re excited to see the impact he will have on our revenue strategy and overall success.”
Dant has led KLKN’s operations, sales, and community engagement efforts since joining Standard Media in 2019. Before that, he was GSM of WMC-TV in Memphis for three years. From 2014-2016, Dant served as General Sales Manager for WDTN-2 and WDBT-TV in Dayton, Ohio, under LIN Media ownership. He’s also been Local Sales Manager at KASA and KRQE in Albuquerque.
Dant cut his teeth in local radio sales, at KYKY “Y98” in St. Louis; he would later handle a similar role at The WB affiliate serving Portland, Ore., from 2001-2003.
