Kellar Radio Talent Institute Returns, Now Produced by RAB

In August 2020, the Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) acquired the National Radio Talent System (NRTS). This put the RAB in the producer’s chair for the first time for NRTS’s Kellar Radio Talent Institute broadcast radio training program at Appalachian State University.

Some 19 students have successfully completed the program at the school’s Boone, N.C., campus.

The return of the in-person 10-day immersive professional development course for college students saw the participation of nearly 50 broadcast professionals from such radio broadcast companies as Audacy, Beasley Media Group, Capitol Broadcasting, Curtis Media, Dick Broadcasting, iHeartRadio, Inner Banks Media and Performance Racing Network.

Also in attendance: Don Anthony from Talk Show and Morning Show Bootcamp, RAB head Erica Farber and veteran radio programming consultant Dan Vallie, who is the founder of NRTS.

Session topics included on-air delivery, sports, news, promotions, production, podcasting, engineering, digital and sales. All students also successfully completed the RAB Radio Marketing Professional certification course.
