Longtime Katz Television Head Leo MacCourtney To Retire

NEW YORK —  Leo MacCourtney, a longtime television industry leader who has served as President of Katz Media Group’s Katz Television arm since 2012, is retiring.


His final day in the role is June 30, at which time the company’s Chief Operating Officer, also at Katz Television for 12 years, will assume MacCourtney’s role.

This gives Craig Broitman, who serves on the TVB’s Executive Board and the chair of its National Sales Advisory Committee, expanded duties at Katz Television.

MacCourtney’s departure marks the conclusion of what Katz calls “a remarkable career” spanning over five decades in the industry.

In a statement released Thursday morning, KMG said, “Since joining Katz Television, MacCourtney has played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s growth and success. Over those years, he has held various senior leadership positions in both sales and corporate management. Throughout his tenure, MacCourtney has been widely respected for his industry knowledge, integrity, and commitment to excellence.”

MacCourtney said, “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities I’ve had at Katz and for the many wonderful colleagues I’ve had the privilege to work alongside. It has been an honor to be part of such a dynamic and forward-thinking organization, and I am proud of what we have achieved together.”

MacCourtney is the Chairman Ex-Officio of the International Radio & Television Society Foundation and the Television Bureau of Advertising (TVB), where he has been a board member since 2005 and has served as its treasurer. He currently serves on the board of the Washington Media Scholars Foundation, is the Vice Chairman and Treasurer for the Broadcasters Foundation of America, and is a board member of the Library of American Broadcasters Foundation (LABF).

MacCourtney’s career in media advertising began in radio, at when he joined WERE-AM 1300 (today WJMO) in Cleveland. In 1981, he left radio to join Blair Television as an account executive. During his tenure at Blair Television, MacCourtney held various sales management roles, including Team Manager, Division Manager, and Division President. He was promoted to President/CEO of Blair Television in 1998, a position he held for nine years. In 2007, MacCourtney joined Katz Television Group as Vice President of Business Development. He later became President of Eagle Television Sales, in 2008.
