It’s Official: NBCUniversal Has a YouTube TV Deal

While TelevisaUnivision is being subject to a “blackout” in lieu of a fresh retransmission consent accord with Google’s YouTube TV, the parent company of Telemundo and NBC has just inked a new long-term agreement keeping its cable and broadcast stations — plus broadcast network affiliates — on the virtual MVPD.

A long-term distribution agreement was signed on Thursday, allowing YouTube TV to continue delivering NBCUniversal’s full slate of entertainment channels to subscribers.

The agreement encompasses YouTube TV, Peacock, YouTube, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution.

Key elements of the agreement include a multi-year carriage commitment for NBCUniversal’s full portfolio of networks on YouTube TV — including NBC, Telemundo, Bravo, CNBC, Golf Channel, E!, Oxygen True Crime, MSNBC, USA, Syfy and Universo.

Thus, cries of racism from TelevisaUnivision may be muted, as its biggest Spanish-language broadcast and cable TV rival’s channels have scored a new deal.

Meanwhile, YouTube TV will carry the new NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) following its autumn launch, while the Peacock OTT platform will be available as an add-on subscription option.

Furthermore, the agreement will bring short-form clips, highlights and shows from NBCUniversal’s premium programming on YouTube; films and TV shows from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment will continue to be available to buy or rent on Google TV, YouTube TV and YouTube; library films from NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution are being made available to stream via SVOD on YouTube Premium and AVOD through YouTube Free Primetime Content.

Lastly, the fresh agreement includes a multi-year extension of Peacock’s availability across Google’s Android platforms, including Google Play and Google TV.

Justin Connolly, Vice President and Global Head of Media & Sports at YouTube, commented, “This deal builds on our long-standing partnership with NBCU while addressing the evolving media landscape and recognizing the importance of making content available where and how viewers want to watch it. We are pleased to have reached this agreement and look forward to continuing our partnership to serve billions of viewers around the world.”
