That’s the report from an Android-focused blog, which says a new update is coming to Android Auto that will bring “traditional radio controls” — and access to AM, FM and digital HD multicast audio offerings.
Android Police notes driver safety and improved user experience as key reasons for the update, “while not a top request” from consumers.
The update is significant, Android Police points out.
“While Android Auto has made significant changes and added a ton of features over the years, the one thing that it still doesn’t offer is connectivity to traditional terrestrial radio broadcasts,” it says.
Another blog, “9to5Google,” the latest versions of Android Auto, v12.3 and v12.4, include new code strings that hint at support for “Car Radio” controls.
