Iconic NPR Station Head, Political Science Expert To Retire

In the “Great Northeast,” there’s perhaps no bigger NPR Member station that WAMC-FM in Albany, and its vast network of radio stations stretching southward to Westchester County, northward to Plattsburgh, westward to Utica and Rome and eastward into the Berkshires of Connecticut and Massachusetts.


For 44 years and five months, WAMC — second only to WPYX in the January 2023 ratings, when looking merely at its primary FM signal — has been the home to an esteemed political science expert who is also a professor emeritus at SUNY Albany. Soon, there will be a leadership change, as Alan Chartock is retiring.
