ICAN Parts Ways With Magic Valley Latino ‘Voz’

In March 2010, a nonprofit operating in an area of a state famous for its potatoes was granted a Construction Permit from the FCC, allowing it to build a Class A noncommercial FM radio station.

The intent was for the station to serve the local Hispanic community. Now, the station is set to be sold — and this will breathe new life into the Latino operation.

Idaho Community Action Network is agreeing to sell KBWE-FM 91.1 in Burley, Idaho to Tu Voz Inc.

The deal is valued at $15,000.

When closing occurs, KBWE will be in the hands of a new nonprofit led by Ruben Bautista.

Helping Tu Voz as legal counsel is Oakland, Calif.-based Michael Couzens.

Much of KBWE’s programming will likely remain, as Tu Voz’s mission statement “is to provide awareness and information to the Latino community of the Magic Valley of Idaho.”
