Salem Media Group has secured its new GM for its radio stations in the Greenville-Spartanburg, S. Carolina, market.

Val Carolin takes the role after having served as GSM of Cumulus Media’s flagship stations in the Atlanta market since 2015.

Salem’s Upstate S.C. stations are comprised of Conservative Talk WGTK-FM 94.5 “The Answer,” and Classic Hits simulcast WLTE-FM & WRTH-FM “Earth FM.” It is the rare market where Salem does not air religious-themed programming.

The veteran sales executive previously served as Director/Sales for a six-year period at Urban One (then Radio One) in Atlanta. From Feb. 2008-Oct. 2009, he served as VP/Affiliate Sales for Metro Networks.

The Atlanta radio veteran has also been Director/Sales for Clear Channel’s Atlanta cluster, and VP/Director of Sales for CBS Radio’s Atlanta station group.

Early career stints include a role as GSM of CBS Radio’s WBBM-AM in Chicago.

“Val’s deep experience in all levels of media (local and national, terrestrial and digital) positions him well to lead our growing Greenville cluster,” Salem SVP/Broadcast Operations Allen Power said. “This expertise, combined with his excitement for the Upstate [of South Carolina] is a winning combination as our next General Manager.”

Carolin succeeds Joey Hudson, who has accepted the position of GM for the Salem Radio Network-syndicated talk program The Mike Gallagher Show.

Hudson will continue as a local ambassador and talk show host for “The Answer.”
