Ten months and one week ago, the FCC received a petition to amend its Table of Allotments by adding a new Class C2 FM licensed to a town that is just 40 miles from the Houston transmitter site used by a variety of radio stations from the far southwest of the city’s downtown.
The Assistant Chief of the Media Bureau’s Audio Division has now given the go-ahead for that to happen.
As such, Wharton, Tex., a gateway to the Texas Gulf Coast, is getting a FM at 103.3 MHz. It brings second local service to the town, which has an existing AM station licensed to Wharton.
The petitioner that sought the station’s creation is 7430 Technologies, created in 2017. It will now participate in the FM auction process. Should it be the successful bidder, it will promptly construct and operate the proposed station in accordance with the Commission’s rules and procedures.
The decision from Nazifa Sawez comes following a comment period held in February 2023.
