An Oklahoma multimedia company that in 2018 acquired five radio stations in Tulsa from The E.W. Scripps Co. is planning a grand opening celebration of a Washington, D.C., bureau that will produce content specifically for those back home in the Sooner state.

Starting in January, Griffin Communications will produce content specifically for Oklahomans on topics and issues that affect the state and its citizens from a Washington, D.C., based locale.

This will see Alex Cameron, who joined CBS affiliate KWTV-9 in Oklahoma City in 1995, file reports for the station and for co-owned KOTV-6 in Tulsa.

Cameron becomes the lone Oklahoma reporter to be based in the Nation’s Capital.

“As Oklahoma’s only locally-owned television stations, we consistently invest in content that other stations do not,” said Todd Spessard, Vice President of Content at Griffin. “It’s more important than ever to have a dedicated reporter in the heart of our nation, reporting on our government and its representatives.”

Cameron said, “Reporting from the nation’s capital has been a lifelong dream for me. I can
think of no greater honor than to cover our democracy and government for the great people of my home state – Oklahoma. I look forward to hitting the ground running in January covering the second year of this Congress and the upcoming elections.”

Griffin also owns KSBI-TV in Oklahoma City and KQCW-TV in Tulsa, the market’s home for The CW Network.

It entered the radio industry in December, when it closed on its $12.5 million purchase of Muskogee-licensed CHR/Pop KHTT-FM 106.9 “KHits,” Country siblings KVOO-FM 98.5 and KXBL-FM 99.5, News/Talk KFAQ-AM 1170 and Adult Hits KBEZ-FM 92.9 “Bob FM” in Tulsa.
