One day after the company’s CEO boasted during its third quarter 2023 earnings call that future earnings would surpass that of any single broadcast TV station it owns, Gray Television is cheering the grand opening of what it is calling a “first-class television and film studio” complex on the site of a former General Motors plant.
Assembly Studios, located at Assembly Atlanta in Doraville, Ga., is now in operation.
Gray is the site owner, and in 2021 assembled 135 acres for the new mixed use complex. It includes 43 acres for Assembly Studio’s film and production studio space. Today, 19 sound stages are ready to support entertainment industry creatives.
Located adjacent to Gray Television’s Third Rail Studios, the sound stages at Assembly Studios are expected to generate more than 4,000 jobs, producing economic growth around the Metro Atlanta area and supporting Georgia’s film industry.
As previously noted by Gray Television, the publicly traded company has partnered with Universal Production Services to lease and operate the facilities at Assembly Studios and otherwise support the television and film production needs for NBCUniversal Media and other users and tenants at Assembly Studios.
Assembly Studios offerings include Set Lighting & Grip, Costume, Transportation, Sign & Fabrication Shop, Paint Shop, an expendables store, and other amenities such as warehouse and mill buildings, dressing rooms, rehearsal halls, and office and event space.
Filmable facades for use as exterior filming locations mimic New York, New Orleans, Tribeca, and Europe.

Gray shares were trading up 3.3% to $7.10 as of 10:45am Eastern on Thursday.
