SAVANNAH, GA. — For decades, the CBS affiliate serving Georgia’s Coastal Empire has enjoyed a dominant position in the Nielsen ratings. That is thanks, in part, to the television station being the first in Savannah, signing on the air under the ownership of William Knight Jr. Later, WTOC-11 would be owned by AFLAC, and then by Raycom Media.
Thanks to Gray Media‘s merger with Raycom, WTOC is owned by the Atlanta-headquartered company co-led by Hilton Howell Jr. and Pat LaPlatney. That makes it one of hundreds of stations that was blocked from Dish subscribers, by law, at 7pm Eastern Tuesday.
By midday Wednesday, Gray Media responded with a lengthy attack on the direct broadcast satellite provider, threatening a “good faith” complaint against Dish with the FCC.
