With no other comments submitted to the FCC for its consideration, the Video Division Chief with the Media Bureau has cleared a path for Gray Media to move forward with a VHF-to-UHF upgrade for a new full-power television station it gained the right to build via a swap with Marquee Broadcasting.
On July 1, 2024, Gray Media acquired the construction permit for the forthcoming full-power television station, licensed to the seat of Carbon County, Utah, a small city to the southeast of Provo.
In January of this year, Gray filed a Petition for Rulemaking asking the Media Bureau’s Video Division for permission to shift KCBU-DT from VHF channel 11 to digital channel 15 while keeping the city of license as Price, Utah.
Video Division Chief Barbara Kreisman established a comment period seeking public input on the request. Only Gray commented on the proposal.
Gray’s forthcoming channel 15 facility will operate at an effective radiated power (ERP) of 0.2 kW and height above average terrain (HAAT) of 625.3 meters.
Gray ultimately plans to convert the station into a Distributed Transmission System that will allow it serve viewers on the other side of the mountainous terrain between Price and Provo, Utah.
