DORAL, FLA. — The junior Democratic Commissioner on the FCC has made it clear that the agency is a victim of partisan “weaponization” and is unfairly investigating CBS News & Stations over an interview conducted with former Vice President Kamala Harris days before the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
On Wednesday, while in Miami for a symposium with Hispanic media leaders, she took time out to visit the Paramount Global-owned CBS station serving South Florida — making it clear that the Commission is on nothing short of a witch hunt orchestrated by the president.
The stop at WFOR-4 in Miami by FCC Commissioner Anna M. Gómez is part of what her staff says is “a series of television and radio station visits by the Commissioner to engage with broadcasters across the country and to better understand the media market and its challenges, while analyzing how the FCC’s actions impact different communities.”
The timing couldn’t be more meaningful, as Gómez’s team shared, “It is important to remember that the real targets of the FCC’s partisan investigations of editorial content decisions by national broadcast networks are the locally licensed stations that serve their local communities.”
That’s why Gómez “is highlighting how these unfounded threats can have an adverse impact on the local distribution of news and emergency information for communities across the country. They further distract from important public interest considerations that are appropriately part of the Commission’s oversight of broadcast licensees.”
And, Gómez says, “Consumers shouldn’t be caught in the middle of partisan politics here in Washington. Stations like this one are a valuable resource for seniors, veterans and residents to receive lifesaving information about emergency conditions and local alerts. The FCC should not be in the business of controlling access to vital local information. Instead, we should focus on protecting and expanding the public’s ability to receive timely, accurate news without political interference.”
