An Idaho-based non-profit offering a unique Christian-themed Country music format on a handful of stations across the U.S. is agreeing to sell a 100kw Class C1 facility in Montana.
Who’s the buyer? It is a Salt Lake City radio personality-turned-public radio station operator.
That would be Mike Gerdes, as his Gerdes & Associates has signed off on an asset purchase agreement allowing it to take ownership of KHKM-FM 98.7 in Hamilton, Mont., due south of Missoula.
A $150,000 purchase price has been agreed upon by the parties, with a $5,000 deposit being held. At closing, $70,000 is cash is to be paid; the remaining $75,000 will be honored via a Promissory Note.
Serving as the broker is MCH Enterprises, representing seller Legacy Broadcasting, led by Walter Lancaster.
The legal counsel for buyer Gerdes & Associates, based in Harrisville, Utah, is Mark Denbo of Smithwick & Belendiuk.
Following the deal, Legacy’s stations will be comprised of WCDG-FM in Dahlonega, Ga., and KYMS-FM in Rathdrum, Idaho. Construction Permits for FMs in Blairsville, Ga., and Ducktown, Tenn., are presently dark.
Gerdes & Associates is helmed by Mike Gerdes, associated with Wasatch Community Media, a secular non-profit operation behind KCPW, a non-NPR spoken word hub with programming from the BBC and the CBC’s Q entertainment-focused show.
Don’t expect a simulcast on KHKM. Rather, the station is already offering an Adult Alternative presentation as “The Hawk.”
Gerdes is a former PD and air talent at KENZ-FM in Salt Lake City, and worked at the station under Cumulus Media ownership from June 2011 to August 2012. From 1998-2003 he was an air personality for Simmons Media Group’s crosstown KXRK.
Gerdes & Associates works across the U.S. with operators on matters involving system engineering and design, content creation and distribution for broadcast and other electronic media.
