He’s been serving as the interim General Manager for the ABC affiliate serving Texas’ state capital on Channel 33 and before that was in a similar role for KBMT-12 in Beaumont-Port Arthur, Tex., the dual ABC/NBC affiliate.

Now, he’s being given the permanent President/GM role for the Austin station owned by TEGNA.

It puts 2020 Center for Sales Strategy “Talent Superhero” Byron Wilkinson firmly ensconced in the pilot’s seat for KVUE-TV. He will be responsible for the station’s operations across all platforms, as well as community outreach efforts and driving results for advertisers, TEGNA says.

Wilkinson’s experience includes roles as Director of Sales for KTHV-11 in Little Rock, and as Local Sales Manager at KHOU-11 in Houston, both of which are owned by TEGNA.

“Among an outstanding pool of candidates, Byron stood out for his commitment to KVUE and the Austin community, and his track record of leadership and results,” said Brad Ramsey, SVP of Media Operations at TEGNA. “From sales leadership roles in Houston and Little Rock, to interim general manager roles in Austin and Beaumont, Byron has demonstrated the importance of developing strong teams and leaders. He will continue KVUE’s momentum and build on our commitment to Central Texas.”

Wilkinson commented, “As a native Texan and someone whose family has fallen in love with Austin, I am deeply honored and excited to take on this new role at KVUE. Together with our talented team, we will continue to strive for excellence in all that we do, while making a positive impact on the lives of those we serve.”
