He’s been honored as a Top Local TV Leader by the readers of Radio + Television Business Report and until the end of 2023 served as VP/General Manager of the NBC affiliate serving California’s Central Coast. Now, he’s heading back to Sacramento — but not for a job in broadcast television.

Ed Chapuis on Sunday took to LinkedIn to share that he’s starting a new role at the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services.

“As the Assistant Director of Crisis Communications and Public Affairs, I’ll be working with a team to provide clear, accurate and timely information to Californians to prepare for, respond to, and recover from threats and emergencies,” said Chapuis, who for 6 1/2 years was at the helm of KSBY-6, the E.W. Scripps Co.-owned property in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
“Covering fires, earthquakes and disasters for TV stations in California over the past 30+ years, I look forward to continue to work with reporters and news organizations to help people during emergencies.”

Chapuis joined Scripps in September 2017 as News Director for KGTV-10 in San Diego. Before that, he spent four years in a similar role at KTXL “FOX 40” in Sacramento, then a Tribune-owned station. From 2003-2013, he was News Director and Manager of Digital for KTVU-2 in San Francisco under Cox ownership.

This will be his fourth move to Sacramento: From June 1997-September 2002 he was News Director for KCRA-3, the Hearst-owned NBC station. That role followed a position as Managing Editor and Special Projects Producer at KCRA under Kelly Broadcasting ownership between May 1989 and September 1995.

In between, he was ND of KTNV-13 in Las Vegas, then-owned by Journal Broadcast Group.

“On the personal side, I’m thrilled to be moving back to Sacramento,” Chapuis said. “While Chicago will always be home, and we’ve loved the Central Coast, this will be my fourth move to Sacramento (1989, 1997, 2013, 2024). My wife Anne and daughters Regina and Abigail were all born there and we’re very excited to move back closer to friends and family.”
