WASHINGTON, D.C. — She was the first woman to serve as Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, an “enthusiastic and effective supporter” of public media, and in May 2020 celebrated the passage of her “Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions (HEROES) Act,” a $3 trillion legislative action that included provisions to expand eligibility for U.S. Small Business Administration loan access to local newspapers and radio and television stations economically impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
