Former Denver Sports Anchor Loses Spurs Slot Amid Affair Talk

He was considered one of the top rising stars of his craft, with early experience at TEGNA NBC affiliate KUSA-9 in Denver ahead of calling games for the PAC-12 Network and for FanDuel Sports Network. Since 2024, he eclipsed the now-retired Bill Land as the lead play-by-play announcer for the NBA’s 2026 Western Conference Champions.

Now, Jacob Tobey is no longer associated with the San Antonio Spurs, putting his career path in a haze. The reasons are linked to social media accusations that Tobey had established a romantic relationship with a woman who is the sister of a Spurs bench player.

According to Front Office Sports, a series of posts accusing Tobey of cheating on his girlfriend with the sibling of Spurs player Lindy Waters III were shared on his Instagram account. These posts went viral across other social media platforms. Then, it was revealed by Tobey’s girlfriend that she had made the posts on his account, and that they had ended their relationship.

Tobey was a weekend sports anchor at Denver’s “9News” while also gaining experience calling college basketball games for PAC-12 Network and for FS1. Prior to his role in Denver, he served as the weekend sports anchor at KJRH-TV in Tulsa.

On FanDuel, Tobey appeared alongside Sean Elliott, the University of Arizona Small Forward who would enjoy a pro career as a notable Spurs star.

Tobey is represented by The Montag Group in New York, which declined to comment on the matter when contacted by RBR+TVBR. However, a source close to the matter confirmed that the nature of Tobey’s departure from Spurs Sports + Entertainment is authentic.

The social media posts included a photo of Tobey and Waters’ sister engaged in a kiss.
