Veteran media broker Dick Foreman has successfully found a buyer for a unique 3kw Class A FM station with a signal covering Western Connecticut and a format presently offering listeners a mix of Adult Contemporary music, NASCAR coverage and a Sunday morning jazz show hosted by Mike Gow.

Will the new owner keep “Litchfield County’s Favorite” once it closes on its purchase of WZBG-FM?

That’s up to longtime Constitution State radio station owner John Fuller, whose Red Wolf Broadcasting Corp. is acquiring the Litchfield, Conn., FM from Local Girls & Boys Broadcasting Corp. for an undisclosed price.

A filing in the FCC’s LMS is expected to occur by February 12. WZBG General Manager Jennifer Parsons made the announcement on Friday.

WZBG, a docket 80/90 drop-in, debuted in 1992, and can be heard from southern Massachusetts to Wallingford, Conn.

LGB Managing Partner Virginia Mortara commented, “It was a difficult decision for the ownership group.” That, interestingly, includes longtime media executive Dick Ebersol and his longtime wife, actress Susan Saint James. “The Time has come for us to turn the reins over to new and exciting ownership to move the station forward to its next chapter of its success.”

Saint James is 77 years of age; Ebersol is 76 years old.

Red Wolf head Fuller commented, “Local ownership of radio stations is a core commitment which we take seriously and we’re excited about the pending ownership of the station.”

Listeners can anticipate no staff changes. However, Fuller said, “We are looking to enhance
the heritage created by its originators over 32 years ago.”

Red Wolf will add WZBG to a collection of stations comprised of WBMW-FM in the New London, Conn., market and Hartford stations WDRC-AM & FM and WMRQ-FM, in addition to properties in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

WDRC-AM’s talk format can be heard in Litchfield County via WSNG-AM in Torrington, Conn., also owned by Red Wolf.
