Flagler Beach migration proves costly

In a way, you almost have to admire the can-do spirit of Halifax Christian Church in Flagler Beach FL, a few odometer clicks up the coast from Daytona Beach. It wasn’t happy with the reception its LPFM station, WFBO-LP, was getting on 93.3 MHz, so it simply moved it down the dial a few clicks to 92.7 MHz. And just for good measure, it bumped the power up to 106 watts (the max allowed for LPFMs is 100). This creative plan to deal with the physical problems of the station without bothering the FCC didn’t sit too well with the Commission, which decided a $24K fine would help keep the station on the straight and narrow. To its credit, HCC did not try to hide anything, and the FCC was impressed enough with its candor, and the paucity of funds in its bank account, to reduce the fine to $8.1K.
