An AM station in Massachusetts that is based in unrated territory but manages to sneak into two rated markets has been sold. And the seller will likely be hanging around for awhile.
The station is WPKZ-AM Fitchburg MA.
The seller is Central Broadcasting Company LLC, headed by managing member William J. Macek.
The buyer is K-Zone Media Group LLC, headed by managing member John Morrison.
The price is $700,000 cash.
The parties have entered into a consulting agreement with a term of one year. Macek will receive 50 weekly payments of $500 for a total of $25,000, and will provide no more than 250 hours of service. This could be reduced if the current station manager stays on for 60 days, or if a suitable replacement is found. In the event that the latter situation applies, the consulting fee remains the same.
The deal comes with an FM translator: W287BT, also of Fitchburg.
WPKZ-AM is a Class B on 1280 kHz with 5 kW-D, 1 kW-N, DA2. The station serves unrated territory north of Worcester and west of Boston. It has an outer contour presence in both.
