The Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau within the FCC has taken a moment to highlight what it considers “best practices” for cross-sector cooperation and network resiliency during hurricane season.
The suggestions include those distilled from the Hurricane Season Resiliency Roundtable that the FCC hosted on July 7, which saw the Commission examine the challenges to hurricane inter-sector cooperation in hurricane response and recovery; current government, intra-industry, and cross-industry resiliency partnerships; and advance preparation frameworks and best practices for power-communications cooperation.
The topics include protecting cable and fiber lines; establishing and fostering relationships across industries before disaster strikes; and preparing, coordinating, and practicing centralized response plans in advance and to establish and maintain lines of communication.
Learning other sectors’ critical infrastructure and lexicon was also noted.
