EMF Grabs An FM In Gulfport

Educational Media Foundation is at it again with the acquisition of another FM radio station — this time on the Gulf of Mexico in Mississippi.

The deal is hardly a surprise: It is already a KLOVE member station.

EMF is agreeing to purchase from Port Broadcasting Class A WLGF-FM 107.1 from Port Broadcasting.

That’s the station formerly known as WXYK-FM 107.1 “The Monkey,” which was spun to Port by TeleSouth Communications following that company’s purchase of the station — along with WANG-AM, WTNI-AM, WCPR-FM, WGBL-FM, WQBB-FM, and FM translator W278CE at 103.5 MHz in Biloxi, Ms., from Alpha Media.

With the sale from TeleSouth, WXYK’s programming on the last day of February 2019 moved to what had been WQBB-FM 105.9.

This shifted the WXYK calls, and on March 1 EMF’s “KLOVE” Christian Contemporary format ended up on the station, which took the WLGF calls.

Clearly, this suggested another spin could come. Now it has.

The deal is valued at $362,000. An $18,100 escrow deposit has been made to Port, led by Stephen Davenport.

Class A WLGF’s signal covers Biloxi and Gulfport but does not reach Pascagoula, the third city in this DMA.
