He’s widely regarded as one of the radio industry’s foremost research minds, with years of experience at Arbitron, Nielsen Audio and, most recently, at Cumulus Media.
Now, Dr. Ed Cohen is taking a position as Chief Research Officer for the company behind SpotGPS, repped by Benztown.
Cohen is joining Cipolla Analytics, creator of the SpotGPS advanced intelligence software products designed for radio.
SpotGPS converts airplay data into commercial content analysis and has been developed specifically for markets that use Nielsen’s Portable People Meter (PPM) — something Cohen is likely wholly familiar with.
Cohen served as VP of Measurement Innovation for Arbitron, and retained that role following its acquisition by Nielsen, which brought the Nielsen Audio name to the former radio industry ratings and consumer data giant. Cohen spent many years at Arbitron, rising from VP/Domestic Radio Research to a VP/Research Policy post during his tenure there.
Cohen was most recently VP of Ratings and Research for Cumulus Media. At Nielsen Audio, he led a “connected” car streaming audio research initiative as VP of Measurement Innovation.
That’s not the only major audio content creation and distribution company Cohen has on his resume. He’s also served as VP of Research for iHeartMedia and predecessor company Clear Channel Communications, and held research positions for the NAB and for Birch/Scarborough Research.
Cohen also served multiple years on the NAB’s COLRAM committee (Committee On Local Radio Audience Measurement) and has represented companies on the Media Rating Council.
Cipolla Analytics is founded by President Ralph Cipolla.
Speaking about Cohen, Cipolla said, “There is no one in the business better qualified to help our clients interpret SpotGPS data and craft a set of action steps that will ensure their stations are PPM-ready, every quarter-hour of the week.”
