Station owners in two adjacent southern California markets are celebrating the advent of tax day by doing a like-kind exchange that will allow them avoid the outstretched hand of the tax collector.
The markets are Palm Springs and Victor Valley.
It may be a like-kind exchange for tax purposes, but the facilities are not entirely alike – one is an AM, the other an FM.
On one side of the table is MCC Radio LLC. Manager Gregory J. Smith signed off on the deal. It is swapping KFSQ-AM Thousand Palms CA in the Palm Springs market.
On the other side is Sunnylands Broadcasting LLC. SVP Craig S. Mitchell signed off on the deal. It is swapping KCLZ-FM Twentynine Palms CA.
For Sunnylands, KFSQ will be its only station in Palm Springs. Additionally, it will enter into a TBA with MCC which will result in MCC continuing to provide programming for the station.
MCC will still have four stations in the Palm Springs market: KNWZ-AM/KCLB-FM Coachella, KKUU-FM Indo and KNWQ-AM Palm Springs.
In the Victor Valley CA market, KCLZ-FM will form a cluster with MCC’s KNWH-AM & KDGL-FM, both Yucca Valley.
