In another banner year, Disney Channel delivered TV’s Top 2 scripted telecasts with “Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie” and crossover special “Wizards On Deck with Hannah Montana,” and the Top 2 scripted TV series with “Wizards of Waverly Place” and “The Suite Life on Deck,” ranking as TV’s No. 1 network in Total Day in Tweens 9-14.

In addition, 2009 was Disney Channel’s most-watched year on record in Total Day in Total Viewers and Kids 6-11, and tied 2007 as the net’s highest-rated year in Tweens 9-14.

In Prime, Disney Channel was TV’s No. 1 network for the 7th straight year in Kids 6-11 and for the 9th consecutive year in Tweens 9-14. In Total Viewers, Disney Channel ranked as cable’s No. 2 network, marking the channel’s 4th straight year ranking among the Top 2 cable networks.

2009 Total Day, Prime and Playhouse

Disney Channel was TV’s No. 1 network in Total Day in Tweens 9-14 (516,000/2.1 rating).

In 2009, Disney Channel recorded its largest annual Total Viewer (1.65 million) and Kid 6-11 (615,000) audiences in the net’s history, and tied 2007 as the net’s top-rated year in Tweens 9-14 (2.1 rating).
Year-to-year, Disney Channel grew its delivery by robust double-digit percentages, increasing by 11% in Total Viewers (1.65 million vs. 1.48 million), by 11% in Kids 6-11 (615,000 vs. 553,000) and by 12% in Tweens 9-14 (516,000 vs. 461,000).

Disney Channel was cable’s No. 2 network in Prime in Total Viewers (2.53 million), surpassing No. 3 TNT by 12% (2.25 million) and representing the 4th consecutive year the network has ranked among the Top 2 networks on all cable.

Among its target demos, Disney Channel captured TV’s annual Prime trophy for the 7th consecutive year in Kids 6-11 (1.05 million/4.3 rating; 2003-2009) and for the 9th straight year in Tweens 9-14 (870,000/3.6 rating; 2001-2009).

The net’s Playhouse Disney block (M-F, 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m./SS, 6:00-11:00 a.m.) enjoyed another banner year, delivering all-time highs in the daypart in Total Viewers (1.40 million), Kids 2-5 (490,000), Girls 2-5 (247,000), Boys 2-5 (242,000) and Women 18-49 (256,000).

2009 Program Highlights

The premiere of Disney’s “Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie” (8/28/09) ranked as TV’s No. 1 telecast in Kids 6-11 (5.32 million/21.8 rating), TV’s No. 1 scripted telecast in Tweens 9-14 (4.64 million/19.0 rating) and cable’s No. 1 scripted telecast of 2009 in Total Viewers (13.50 million).

Impressively, this year marked the 8th straight year that Disney Channel has delivered the No. 1 original movie telecast in Tweens 9-14, and 8th time in the previous 9 years in Kids 6-11.

In Total Viewers, 2009 represented the 3rd consecutive year that Disney Channel delivered the year’s No. 1 scripted telecast on all cable: 2009: “Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie“ (13.50 million); 2008: “Camp Rock” (10.11 million); 2007: “High School Musical 2” (18.64 million).
Crossover event “Wizards On Deck with Hannah Montana” (7/17/09) was cable’s No. 2 scripted telecast in Viewers (10.64 million), TV’s No. 2 scripted telecast in Tweens 9-14 (4.19 million/17.2 rating), and TV’s No. 3 scripted telecast in Kids 6-11 (4.28 million/17.5 rating).

In Tweens 9-14, “Wizards of Waverly Place” (1.63 million/6.7 rating) and “The Suite Life on Deck” (1.60 million/6.6 rating) qualified as TV’s Top 2 scripted series of the year.

In Kids 6-11, “The Suite Life on Deck” (1.82 million/7.4 rating) and “Wizards of Waverly Place” (1.81 million/7.4 rating) were TV’s Top 2 series of 2009.

For the second straight year, “Phineas and Ferb” qualified as TV’s No. 1 animated series in Kids 6-11 (1.61 million/6.6 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (1.26 million/5.2 rating).
