CPR Brings Its Programming To Danbury

Until now, Connecticut Public Radio broadcasts reached nearly all of the Constitution State, but not all corners. The far northeast corner of the state can’t get it, nor can the city of Danbury, largely due to hilly terrain and signal limitations of WNPR-FM in Hartford.

That’s about to change, and noted media broker Greg Guy had a hand in the deal.

The Berkshire Broadcasting Company has agreed to part ways with W279CI at 103.7 MHz for $500,000.

Guy’s Tideline Partners was the exclusive broker in the transaction.

The seller is the parent company of WLAD-AM 800 and W231DJ at 94.1 MHz, the heritage News/Talk radio station serving Danbury; WDAQ “98Q”, an Adult Contemporary station; and daytime-only Spanish Adult Hits WAXB “JUAN 850.”

WDAQ carries several HD multicast channels, and its HD2 signal has served as the originating station for W279CI, branded as “Danbury’s New Rock Alternative.”

Under CPR ownership, this relationship will cease; it is unclear if the programming will continue as a HD2-exclusive broadcast operation.

WNPR, at 90.5 MHz, cannot be heard clearly in Danbury due to the proximity of WFUV-FM 90.7 in New York. The only other NPR programming audible in Danbury comes courtesy of WAMC-FM in Albany, N.Y.’s vast network of stations.
