Three radio brands serving the Gadsden, Ala., listening area to the northeast of Birmingham have been placed in the hands of a court-appointed administrator overseeing the estate of the late licensee, who passed away on January 18.
Jeannie F. Courington, the wife of the late Pat Courington Jr., is now the controlling interest holder in Sand Mountain Broadcasting, operator of Contemporary Christian WAVU-AM & W298BG “Power 107.5” and Country WQSB-FM in Albertville, Ala.
She is also now the sole equity holder of Classic Country WKXX-FM 102.9 in Attala, Ala., via Broadcast Media LLC, an affiliated entity of Sand Mountain.
WKXX is also a member of the Atlanta Braves Network.
Courington, known as “Mr. C” to those who knew him, was 84 years old. He took the reins of the three stations in 1984 when his father retired.
The younger Courington served as president of the Alabama Broadcasters Association from 1998-1999 and was selected as “Alabama Broadcaster of the Year” in 2002.
He also served as president of Courington Real Estate.
