The HD3 signal associated with a Class C boomer licensed to Tucson is about to lose its FM translator companion that’s been giving it a boost in this southern Arizona market.
Interestingly, a veteran Hispanic media figure is grabbing the translator, and he’s ready to send Toño packing.
K223CI at 92.5 MHz in Tucson has been using its 150-watt signal on a tower west of downtown also used by KRQQ-FM 93.7, among other stations in the market.
And, it’s been the home of Toño, best-described as a regional Mexican Adult Hits station styled like “JACK FM,” rebroadcasting the KLPX-FM 96.1 HD3 signal.
That’s about to change, as Bustos Media is purchasing K223CI from Radioforsale LLC for $450,000.
A $25,000 escrow payment is being held by Dennis J. Kelly, the legal counsel for Bustos Media. The seller’s legal counsel is James L. Oyster.
At closing, the remaining payments will be made in 24 consecutive monthly payments of $5,000. Then, 36 consecutive monthly payments valued at $6,000 will be made. Lastly, a balloon payment of $89,000 will be due.
A LMA ahead of closing will allow Bustos to take control of K223CI on November 1, with lease payments convertible to monthly payments against the purchase price.
As such, Nov. 1 could see the use of the translator for Talk KVOI-AM 1030 in Cortaro, Ariz., a Class B with 10kw daytime from 4 towers and 1kw at night from 2 towers.
