Corpus Christi FM Finds Christ

Merry Christmas: A Class C1 FM with a booming signal over the Texas Gulf Coast, known to Spanish speakers as “the hot one,” is about to go up in flames.

That’s because the No. 2 licensee of radio stations in the U.S. is about to give it a burst of contemporary Christian music, through its pending ownership.

Soon, Corpus Christi, Tex., Hispanic radio consumers will need to say their último adios to “La Caliente,” the banda-flavored regional Mexican brand presently heard on KMJR-FM 98.3.

The Odem, Tex.-based station is being sold by Tejas Broadcasting to Educational Media Foundation, the non-profit operator of CCM giants KLOVE and Air1.

To get EMF in the Corpus Christi market, it is paying Tejas $432,000 for KMJR.

A deposit of $21,600 has been made to Tejas by EMF.

KMJR is currently diplexed with Tejas’ KLTG-FM 96.5 “The Beach,” a Class C1 facility that on some evenings can be heard in San Antonio. This will continue.

Serving as the exclusive brokers in this transaction, representing Tejas, are Bill Whitely of the Dallas office and George Reed of the Jacksonville office of Media Services Group.

Tejas is led by Susan Lucchesi-Fields.
