The owner of non-commercial educational FMs in Miamitown and Waynesville, Ohio, offering a unique take on Classic Rock is agreeing to obtain another non-commercial FM — a Class A facility serving the Miami Valley communities of Oxford and Hamilton.
It sees the rare conversion of a religious FM to a rocker.
Pending FCC approval, WHSS-FM 89.5 in Hamilton, Ohio will become the latest home between Dayton and Cincinnati of “ClassX Radio.”
Don’t think of it as a successor to the former “97X,” which served the region famously as an Alternative station featured in the film Rain Man and is today a regional Mexican FM. Rather, it is an offering that goes deep on regional Classic Rock. In the 11am hour on Friday, songs from Rossington Collins Band and Cleveland legends Michael Stanley Band could be heard alongside Def Leppard, Rush and Robert Plant.
The deal brings a sixth regional home for “ClassX Radio,” with Sacred Heart Radio agreeing to sell the facility to Spyrex Communications for $45,000. A 10% earnest money deposit has been made to the seller.
Spyrex is led by William Spry Jr., largely known for his role as President of broadcast software, radio programming and consulting firm Spry Group Multimedia.
