Television stations carrying the “Big Four” TV networks, along with the local MyNetwork TV affiliate, serving the Cincinnati DMA have fired up their ATSC 3.0-powered NEXTGEN TV broadcasts.

The launch involves the E.W. Scripps Co.’s flagship station, and properties owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, Deerfield Media, Hearst Communications and Gray Television.

As of Tuesday (9/14), Scripps’ ABC affiliate WCPO-9 is being joined by Sinclair’s CBS affiliate, WKRC-12; Hearst NBC affiliate WLWT-5; Gray’s WXIX-TV “FOX 19;” and Deerfield-owned and Sinclair-managed WSTR-64.

The launch follows a decade of development and months of planning and preparation by the local stations.

For WSTR-TV, a full conversion to ATSC 3.0 transmissions has been completed, with this property serving as the Cincinnati NEXTGEN TV “lighthouse.”

To ensure viewer continuity, no stations will cease broadcasts in the ATSC 1.0 digital TV format.

BitPath, which is developing new data broadcasting services, led the planning process and coordinated efforts across the five television stations.
