Channel 13 in Stockton, Calif., is the latest broadcast television station to adopted an augmented reality/virtual reality news studio. The addition at KOVR-TV, better known as “CBS Sacramento,” marks the 12th rollout of the technology-driven method bringing immersive storytelling and next-generation journalism to viewers.
The first AR/VR broadcasts were seen on Monday (5/11) at Noon Pacific, with integrations into station newscasts, including news, weather and sports.
Select AR/VR elements will also be used during news and weather segments on GOOD DAY on KMAX, which airs on KOVR’s sibling KMAX-TV; the remainder of the program will continue to originate from a traditional studio.
“CBS Sacramento has long served our community through trusted journalism and compelling storytelling,” said Scott Warren, President/GM of CBS Sacramento and CBS Bay Area. “This new AR/VR studio gives viewers greater context and perspective, creating a more immersive way to experience the weather and local news stories that matter to them.”
