The biggest lobbying voice in Washington for broadcast media reiterated its call to freeze the fees, putting any halt to an increase in the dollars collected from radio and TV stations — especially given the COVID-19 pandemic. The eight-page filing from Rick Kaplan, the NAB’s top legal counsel, has failed to sway the Commission.

Fees for filing formal consumer complaints at the FCC could be skyrocketing, if a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking gets an affirmative nod from the Commissioners. The NAB late Wednesday submitted a reply brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in regard to the FCC's appeal of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals' remand of the Commission's 2016 quadrennial review order -- a move the broadcasting industry's biggest lobbying groups says "attempted to institute modest reforms" to broadcast media ownership regulations.

Mark December 8 on your calendar for the Commission's C-Band Auction. Details were released by the FCC on Friday for "Auction 107," which involves Flexible-Use Service Licenses in the 3.7-3.98 GHz Band for Next-Generation Wireless Services. The auction is moving ahead over dissents from the two Democratic Commissioners.

The BLT program has gained a reputation as the foremost executive training program for the broadcast industry and is designed to prepare senior-level broadcasters to advance into ownership or executive positions. Women and people of color are especially encouraged to apply, the NAB Leadership Foundation says.

An FM translator serving the Antelope Valley of Southern California was found in 2016 to have exceeded its licensed power output. To make matters worse, a February 2017 follow-up inspection found the religious noncomm licensee failed in its remedial efforts. A fine was issued, and the licensee fought it. That fight is now over.

Two items scheduled for consideration at the FCC's August Open Meeting on Thursday have been deleted from the agenda. That's because there's no need for debate on whether the Commission should move forward with the items. One item involves common antenna siting rules. That's because the Commission unanimously moved Wednesday to repeal them.
