Three BIN AMs Now Officially Owned by iHeart

Three AM radio stations and an FM translator associated with one of those properties are now officially owned by iHeartMedia. A Notification of Consummation was posted Monday by the FCC on its LMS.

Fred Dockins Scores Two Joyful Deals

In July 2009, Fred Dockins expanded his media holdings in a significant way. With one Florida FM in his possession, he moved forward with the acquisition of a five-station group in rural southeast Missouri from Randolph Miller's Southern Star Broadcasting. Now, Dockins is adding to his Show-Me State holdings, and it's thanks to a "joyful" deal.

Beasley expects to use the net proceeds of this offering to repay in full existing indebtedness under the company’s senior secured credit facilities and certain other indebtedness, with remaining proceeds to be added to the Issuer’s balance sheet and used for general corporate purposes.

Final Station Spun From Elliot Evers-Led Trust

In March 2018, four stations divested by Cumulus Media in order to emerge from Chapter 11 were placed in a trust headed by Elliot Evers, of MVP Capital in San Francisco. One property was removed from the group, as Cumulus turned in the license for another facility in the impacted market. In 2019, two of the stations were sold. Now, the last one is being dealt.

New Data On Smart Speaker Consumption Confirms Big Growth

New research from Triton Digital shows that smart speaker growth with respect to AM/FM radio station streaming consumption is growing at a healthy clip. At the same time, the smartphone remains flat. Still, mobile consumption remains higher than that of a smart speaker — for now.

Groups Seeking No Radio Dupe Rule OK Speak Up

As 2021 began, the FCC formally objected to a Petition for Reconsideration of the elimination of a radio duplication rule for AM and FM stations. The petition was filed by three groups, who last week submitted a joint "final consolidated reply" -- as did a fourth group that's been a NAB antagonist.

NoCal Public Media Gains a Big Wine Country Signal

As of today, Northern California Public Media has used a 120-watt signal to reach such Mendocino County towns as Healdsburg, Cloverdale and Windsor. To bring its programming to listeners in Santa Rosa, a 16-watt translator at 90.9 MHz was brought into the mix. Soon, everyone north of San Francisco will be able to hear NoCal's programming.

But, radio broadcasters in the U.S. shouldn't get too excited about it. The smart watch manufacturer has been branded by Washington Republicans as an agent of the People's Republic of China.
