Radio and Television Transactions

In late 2018, the radio broadcasting company led by Don Davis used the "Breeze" brand for a Smooth Jazz format airing on Santa Fe, N. Mex., stations, to protect the city of Grants, N. Mex., from any brand encroachment. Vanguard began simulcasting his "Breeze" on an FM in the city. Now, Davis is cementing the brand there by gaining full ownership of the Class C3 facility.

In mid-January, a silent AM radio station licensed for 10kw of power from 1 tower received what appeared to be nothing short of its death sentence from the Media Bureau and the FCC’s Office of the Managing Director. Guess what? The licensee has successfully fought the FCC -- and won. As such, the station has a new lease on life.

Once again, there were no new deals posted by the FCC in its CDBS database on Friday. As such, TRANSACTIONS TODAY offers details on a trio of STA requests and a West Virginia closing. One STA request involves a Michigan FM handed to a court-appointed receiver in December 2019.

In October 2019, RBR+TVBR was first to report on the sale of a full-power digital TV station licensed to a small town in New York's Adirondack Mountains that is poised to become a Burlington, Vt.-Plattsburgh, N.Y. DMA sibling to a big CBS affiliate with reach into Montreal and much of Quebec. That deal has now closed.

In recent months, the owner of KHCB-FM has built a formidable network thanks to acquisitions and donated assets. Now, it is adding another station to its godly stable, thanks to another gift.

On the "big island" of Hawai'i, there are two metropolitan areas: Kailua-Kona and Hilo. It is in the latter city that an AM radio station has served listeners since Christmas Day 1984.  Today, it is a simulcast of an FM that, like many, uses a Hilo-based and Kona-based MHz signal to cover all of Hawai'i. Soon, however, that AM will say goodbye to the Beach.

It seems an asset was left out of the original asset purchase agreement, leading the buyer and seller to file an amendment via a Form 345 FCC filing made Monday.

In Michigan radio lore, the town of Hudson is known as a place where longtime respected station owners Bruce and Sue Goldsen once managed WMXE. Now, the municipality is making news again, as a Class A with a broadcast tower in rural Osseo, Mich., is being sold.

Tom Troland and Michael Mallace have just acquired an FM station with a construction permit for a new signal allowing to cover much of America's Four Corners region -- including picturesque Cortez, Colo., and much of Farmington, N. Mex.

In a transaction brokered by Kalil & Co., Dhillon’s Radio Punjab in November 2019 agreed to purchase a silent 20kw daytime/200 watt nighttime AM that is licensed to use 3 towers to reach an area to the far southeast of Dallas. The deal has now formally closed.

A low-power TV station serving a picturesque region of Northern Arizona that includes Sedona and Jerome is being sold. It's the lone deal on a quiet Wednesday for transactions as one big group of brokers holds meetings at NATPE Miami with potential buyers and sellers.

A low-power FM in the heart of the Permian Basin is being sold by a local religious organization to a community group empowered to "Helping Others Prepare for Empowerment." At the same time, a LPFM in Kentucky's biggest metropolitan area is being handed to a new licensee in a "zero-value assignment."
