Radio and Television Transactions

In March, the call letters "KPRO" were assigned to a Class A FM radio serving the city of Marshall, Tex. Then, at the end of May, this facility reverted to the call letters it previously had in place since 1992. Now, the FM has been sold, and based on the licensee name, "The Depot" may be laying tracks for a rebirth of this forlorn facility.

The sale of three radio stations in Wisconsin to Dave Magnum‘s Magnum Communications from the media company owned by Mary Quass is now complete. The transaction saw Kalil & Co. serve as the broker of record.

As the head of Magnum Communications, Jeffrey Sigmon sees dollars in broadcast towers. Now, he's made a deal with Don Curtis and his Curtis Media Group to take on ownership of an FM translator serving the community of Monroe, N.C., east of Charlotte.

With 4 towers from a site on the Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve, a Class B AM offers Adult Standards programming with 25kw during daylight hours and 5kw at night. That's about to change, as "Unforgettable 1430" has been sold to a Hispanic broadcast ministry.

A Florida-based non-profit corporation has agreed to part ways with three FM stations in the state of Nevada. The buyer is truly a Lucky Boy ... an individual some know for his partnership with George Hawras in radio stations now owned by Seven Mountains Media.

No, we're not talking about a variety or strain of the indica subspecies of cannabis plant. Rather, we're talking about a Class D AM with 5kw during daylight hours and 70 watts after dark at 1600 kHz in an Oklahoma town where it also sports an unbuilt FM translator. The AM bears the call letters KUSH, and these Cushing stations are heading to a new owner.

An AM/FM combo licensed to the town of Selmer, Tenn., is heading to a new owner. It involves a Class D daytime operation, and a Class A FM, just north of the state line with Mississippi.

South Padre Island has been long-known as a popular party destination for Spring Breakers. Now, it is in the news thanks to the sale of an FM translator serving this Gulf of Mexico beach-filled locale.

A Class C3 FM licensed to Honor, Mich., near Traverse City, is trading hands. And, it's a bit of good news for Good News Media. They're the buyer of this facility, which has been a home for "Classical IPR" since February 1.

In the Western New York cities of Fredonia and Lancaster, the latter of which is due east of Buffalo, "The Station of The Cross" can be found on the noncommercial band of the FM dial. Now, the FM translator serving Fredonia, home to a state university of New York, will be wholly owned by operator Holy Family Communications.

In May, RBR+TVBR first reported on the acquisition in a court-sanctioned auction of an FM in the "Conch Republic" by Michael Stapleford and his Magnum Broadcasting. Now, another FM once part of the Choice Radio Keys stable is being sold by the creditor representative appointed by a Monroe County, Fla., judge to execute the sell-off of its assets.

Northwest Arkansas is a growing Hispanic hub: the Latino population in the Nielsen Audio-defined metro is 14.3%. As such, having a radio station serving Spanish-speakers here may be of value. That's the case for Edward and Leticia Vega. They've just swapped an AM with an FM translator in Tulsa for a similar operation in the heart of this fast-growing Arkansas region.

The first Monday of July 2020 arrived with no new radio or TV station transactions posted by the FCC in its CDBS. As such, the focus today is on STAs and closings, which include a Honolulu property, and a Seven Mountains Media FM translator tied to a big Southern Tier cluster realignment for the company led by Kristin Cantrell.

It may be a holiday in Canada, but things are particularly quiet at the FCC as the start of the 2021 fiscal year gets underway for many companies. July 1 saw the posting by the Commission of just two newly consummated transactions. Both deals involve noncommercial FM radio stations. 

Go to the city of Pittsburg, Tex., and you'll find a Class A noncomm offering Christian-themed music. It also airs on a FM translator serving nearby Mt. Pleasant, Tex. That will soon change, however, as the translator has just been sold.
