For 26 years, Jorge Carballo has been an ubiquitous presence at NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises’ flagship WSCV-51 in Miami.
Now, Carballo is taking an expanded role that will have him oversee the NBC O&O, WTVJ-6.
Why? The current leader is ready to retire.
Carballo has served as President/GM of Telemundo’s WSCV-51 since 2012. But, he’s been with the station since 1993.
Effective Jan. 1, 2020, he’ll also hold that title for WTVJ.
That’s because Larry Olevitch is retiring at the end of 2019, RBR+TVBR has confirmed.
Olevitch has been at the helm of WTVJ-6 since the start of 2014 and will complete a six-year tenure the role. He rose from SVP/Sales of WTVJ, a role he took in April 2012 after serving as SVP of Local Integrated Media Sales for NBC Local Media.
From 1998-2003, Olevitch was the LSM and Research Director for WPTV-5 in West Palm Beach. For the previous 15 years, he served as NSM for WEWS-5 in Cleveland.
NBC did not comment on Olevitch’s retirement.
However, NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations President Valari Staab called Carballo “one of the most dedicated local broadcasters that I know. He believes in the power that local news can have on our communities and empowers the WSCV team to be relentless in their pursuit of journalistic excellence to help make a difference in our viewers’ lives. As GM, he’s helped Telemundo 51 achieve unprecedented ratings milestones resulting in WSCV becoming one of the strongest stations in the country – in any language. I look forward to seeing what both teams will achieve together as this new era in South Florida broadcasting begins with Jorge at the helm of our Miami stations.”
