CNN reports the death of its early President, Burt Reinhardt, who retired in 2000 as Vice Chairman. He was 91.

“I’m not sure CNN would be here without him,” said Ted Turner, who launched the all-news cable channel in 1980.

Reinhardt joined CNN as a VP and was President from 1983 to 1990 – the second to hold the post, after Reese Schoenfeld and ahead of Tom Johnson. Reinhardt was Vice Chairman until his retirement in 2000.
