The company behind a quartet of broadsheet newspapers serving a rural portion of Tennessee to the north of the city of Jackson has agreed to purchase an AM/FM combo west of that city known to local listeners as “Brownsville Radio.”
WTBG-FM 95.3, a Class A FM in Brownsville, Tenn., and Class D daytime-only sibling WNWS-AM 1520 in Brownsville, are being sold by The Wireless Group Inc. to The Mirror-Exchange, Inc.
The buyer is the parent of “Gibson County News,” and with the acquisition of Brownsville Radio, it is expanding into Haywood County, Tenn.
With Nancy Ory at Lerman Senter PLLC serving as the buyer’s legal counsel, the Carlton Viers-led Wireless Group is agreeing to part ways with Brownsville Radio for $100,000. It is payable through a Promissory Note, with a fixed annual interest rate of 7%. Annual payments across a 10-year period will be made.
The deal includes the station’s broadcast tower and related broadcast equipment.
