It boasts a 5kw daytime signal and some 75 watts at night from a broadcast tower due south of Music City USA, offering “Radio Close To Home” to its listeners since March 1953.
Now, a change in ownership is on the horizon.
WAKM-AM 950 in Franklin, Tenn., is being sold by Heritage Broadcast Associates to D&H Media LLC.
With Nancy Ory of Lerman Senter PLLC serving as the buyer’s legal counsel and John C. Trent of Putbrese, Hunsacker & Trent acting as the seller’s legal counsel, a deal was reached that sees WAKM being sold for $275,000.
A $10,000 deposit is being held by Mr. Trent as an escrow payment.
At closing, a $100,000 cash payment will be made. The remaining $175,000 will be honored through a Promissory Note bearing 4% interest, amortized over 10 years with a five-year “call.”
Heritage Broadcast Associates is led by locally based Linda Carden; D&H is a partnership between Leann Didder and Loy Hardcastle.
WAKM prides itself for local community-focused spoken word programming, classic Country music, and a daily “swap shop” program at 12:15pm. It also airs local High School Football, University of Tennessee Football and Basketball, and is an affiliate of the Tennessee Titans radio network.
