Bouldin’s Total Divestment Of A West Va. AM

He’s been an active participant in radio station ownership in Appalachia for several years. Now, Roger Bouldin has opted to sell an AM radio station with an FM translator serving Huntington, W. Va.

Who’s the buyer?

The answer is Cora Willett, whose Total Media Group has agreed to purchase WNRJ-AM 1200 and FM translator W237ER.

With Gregg Skall of Telecommunications Law Professionals PLLC serving as the legal counsel for the buyer, paperwork has been submitted to the Commission seeking approval of the deal, which sees Total taking over the facilities via a Time Brokerage Agreement ahead of closing.

Terms call for Willett to assume Bouldin’s tower and equipment space lease for the station antenna and transmitter, with F&L Electronics Inc. Total is purchasing outright a Nautel XR6 AM Broadcast Transmitter, Wheatstone Vorsis VP Digital Processor, Burk ARC Solo Remote Control System, and Inovonics Model 525 AM Modulation Monitor.

A $230,000 purchase price has been agreed to, with a $20,000 escrow deposit made by Total Media to Bouldin-led Bristol Broadcasting Co.

Serving as the broker of record in this transaction is Bryan Fowler of Fowler Media LLC. His $11,500 broker’s fee will be split 50/50 between Bristol and Total.

The pending purchase of WNRJ and W237AR brings Total Media Group to West Virginia for the first time, as its other radio stations are located in Ohio with the exception of WLGC-FM in Greenup, Ky., serving nearby Portsmouth, Ohio.

That said, the signal contour of WNRJ and W237ER position it along the Ohio River, and across from communities including South Point, Rome and Burlington, Ohio.
