As 2000 began, WHGS-AM was born, taking on Gospel programming as the previous Country format moved to a Class A FM serving small cities due northwest of Beaufort, S.C., within the Savannah, Ga., DMA.

In June 2004, Bocock Communications purchased the radio stations. Now, it is agreeing to sell them, along with an FM translator.

An asset sale agreement has been filed with the FCC that seeks its approval of a transaction that will transfer WHGS-AM & WBHC-FM in Hampton, S.C., along with FM translator W241DA, to the non-profit Augusta Radio Fellowship Institute.

A $350,000 purchase price was agreed upon, with a $20,000 escrow deposit being held by Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth. The firm’s Matthew McCormick is the legal counsel representing Bodock.

There is no broker or finder associated with this transaction.

Augusta is led by President Clarence Barinowski and used the legal services of Jeffrey Southmayd of Southmayd & Miller of Flagler Beach, Fla.
