A major water main break near the Jacques Cartier Bridge brought significant troubles to the city of Montréal on Friday morning, with Bell Media‘s broadcast radio and television station studios and offices shuttered following the incident.
In Montreal, Bell Media operates CTV network O&O CFCF-12 and French-language network flagship Noovo CFJP-35.
According to a CTV News report, the water main broke at approximately 6am and took six hours to stop spewing on to city of Montreal streets; a boil-water advisory has been issued, while basements were flooded across the Ville-Marie area of the city.
For Bell Media, the massive water main break came too close to home — two blocks north of its facility at René-Lévesque and Papineau, to be precise. After four hours, the massive geyser caused by the water main break “shrunk” to six feet in height.
Power was also cut to thousands of residences and businesses in the area. In response, Bell’s CTV News Montreal instructed workers to stay home.
CJFM “Virgin Radio 95.9” and dominant English-language spoken word CJAD-AM 800 each posted to its X feeds just before 9am, sharing the photo at the above left and explaining that interruptions with the station’s online stream may be experienced. While the station’s FM signal was on the air at that hour, those attempting to stream Sports Talk sibling CKGM “TSN Radio 690” could not.
Bell Media’s radio stations also include Rocker CHOM-FM 97.7, French-language Adult Contemporary CKMF “Energie,” and French-language Top 40 CITE “Rouge.”
All of the company’s radio stations are powered by iHeartRadio through a licensing agreement.
