In October 2025, a 99-watt FM translator serving much of the City of Detroit and neighboring Dearborn, Mich., took a stab at serving the region’s growing population of Spanish-language radio listeners by becoming “La Tricolor.” This shifted the focus of a station already serving Hispanics in the region from those of Caribbean heritage to those from Mexico and Central America.
Now, Beasley Media Group is selling one of the facility’s two FM signals. The buyer? Look no further than the multicultural audio content pioneer today led by the son of its late founder.
W228CJ at 93.5 MHz in Detroit is being acquired by Birach Broadcasting Corp., led by Sima Birach Jr. since the death of his father.
It’s the second FM translator deal of the last seven days to involve Birach, which on Friday agreed to purchase a facility with a transmitter atop Chicago’s Willis Tower.
This deal, which sees John C. Trent of Putbrese, Hunsacker & Trent serve as the buyer’s legal counsel and Sally Buckman of Lerman Senter PLLC represent Beasley, is valued at $450,000.
The plan for Birach is to use the FM facility to bring a little “revitalization,” if you will, to his WNZK-AM in Dearborn Heights, Mich. A $250,000 escrow deposit has been made by Birach to Beasley, with the remaining funds paid in cash at closing.
With the sale of W228CJ, “La Tricolor” remains — pending any further transaction plans — on W256EA on 99.1 MHz in Birmingham, Mich., fed by WMGC-FM 105.1 HD2. This FM translator’s highly directional signal covers areas such as Rochester Hills and Utica; the area’s Hispanic population has historically been in areas south of downtown Detroit, suggesting a buyer for W256EA could be announced soon.
