Barinowski Bids Farewell to Palmetto State Property

The longtime face behind the Augusta Radio Fellowship Institute has signed off on an agreement that will see it part ways with an AM radio station and its FM translator companion in the South Carolina city of Greenwood.

Clarence Barinowski is agreeing to sell WCZZ-AM 1090 in Greenwood, a Class D daytimer with 5kw that must protect WBAL-AM in Baltimore. This makes FM translator W274CC at 102.7 MHz a vital part of the operation that radio personality Benetra Calhoun is buying.

She’s known locally as “The Boss Lady” and first signaled her decision to acquire “Majic 102.7” in May, when she spoke with the Index-Journal of Greenwood about her return to a Black Gospel station she’d been associated with until March 2024.

That’s when new ownership took control of “Majic” and a companion station sold by Broomfield Broadcasting to Good News Network (GNN).

A $95,000 purchase agreement has been struck, and Calhoun — doing business as ALJEPI Productions — has a 10-year Promissory Note bearing 8% interest in place to make the transaction happen. A token $1 escrow deposit has been made.

Serving as the legal counsel in the deal is Jeffrey Southmayd of Southmayd & Miller.
