ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA. — It’s known for being the first city in the U.S. that’s still standing today, and attracts tourists for its boozy St. George Street, its picturesque lighthouse and the Fountain of Youth.
Now, this locale between Flagler County, to the south, and the sprawling Jacksonville area to the north is seeing the transfer of an FM translator to a radio group led by VP/GM David Ayres.
With Chief Financial Officer Patricia Woods signing off on the acquisition, Flagler Broadcasting LLC is agreeing to purchase W267BX at 101.3 MHz in St. Augustine from Cornerstone Broadcasting Corp.
A $50,000 purchase price was struck; a $10,000 deposit has been made to Cornerstone by Flagler.
The FM translator’s signal may seem puny, but it covers all of St. Augustine and Vilano Beach, and can be heard down to Crescent Beach. As such, all of what comprises the St. Augustine area can tune to the facility.
That suits Flagler Broadcasting just fine, as it shifts away from a simulcast of Christian-focused noncommercial WJLU-FM 89.7 in New Smyrna Beach, Fla.
What’s in store for 101.3 MHz? That’s what locals are likely asking, as Flagler Broadcasting already operates Adult Hits WBHU-FM 105.5 and Country W292DE at FM 106.3. Paperwork filed with the Commission notes that a HD3 signal associated with WBHU will air on 101.3 MHz.
Furthermore, a modification application is being filed with the FCC that will see W267BX’s move to a transmitter site near St. Augustine Beach.
At present, the FM translator leases a facility from American Tower Corp.
Cornerstone used Anthony T. Lepore as its legal counsel; Flagler’s legal counsel in this deal is Gary Smithwick of Smithwick & Belendiuk.
