It’s a freshly finalized deal signed on Wednesday that has just been submitted with the FCC for regulatory approval. And, it will see the sale of an FM translator serving a South Carolina city as “94.9 The Palm” to one of the Southeast’s biggest Spanish-language media companies.
With Kathleen Kirby at Wiley Law serving as the seller’s legal counsel, Alpha Media has agreed to sell W235CH at 94.9 MHz in St. Matthews, S.C., covering the Columbia, S.C., market, to Norsan Media.
Serving as Norsan’s legal counsel in the deal is John C. Trent of Putbrese Hunsaker & Trent.
A $300,000 purchase price has been agreed to for the city-grade facility, and a $25,000 escrow deposit is being held with Jorgenson Broadcast Brokerage, which served as Alpha Media’s broker in this deal.
At closing, the remainder will be paid in cash to Alpha Media by Norsan, founded by Norberto Sanchez and today led by his daughter, Natalia.
What does the transaction mean for “94.9 The Palm,” an Adult Alternative service fed by WARQ-FM’s HD4 subchannel? That’s unclear, as Norsan intends to use the facility to rebroadcast WCEO-AM 840 in Columbia, which airs the company’s “La Raza” regional Mexican programming.
Alpha Media’s presence in Columbia includes longtime dominant R&B station WWDM-FM and hip-hop sibling WHXT “HOT 103.9,” in addition to Classic Rock WMFX, Top 40 WARQ “Live 93.5,” and WARQ HD2 “ALT 99.7.”
